New to Islam

Welcome

If you’ve found your way to this page, maybe you’re curious. Maybe you’re searching for something deeper. Or maybe you’ve just heard something about Islam and want to understand for yourself. Whatever brought you here — welcome.

At our mosque, we believe in sharing the message of Islam with kindness, clarity, and sincerity. Whether you’re just beginning to explore or seriously considering becoming Muslim, this page is here to help.

What is Islam?

Islam is an Arabic word that means “submission” — not in a forceful sense, but as a willing surrender to the One who created us. It also comes from the same root word as salaam, meaning peace. So, Islam is a path to peace — with God, within ourselves, and with others.

Muslims believe in One God (Allah), who is merciful, compassionate, and just. Islam teaches that life is a test, and that we were created to worship God through faith, good character, and service to others.

Core Beliefs

There are five core beliefs that form the foundation of a Muslim’s faith:

  1. Belief in One God – Allah has no partners, no children, and nothing is like Him.
  2. Belief in Angels – Invisible beings created by God to carry out His commands.
  3. Belief in Divine Scriptures – Including the Torah, Psalms, Gospel, and final revelation: the Qur’an.
  4. Belief in the Prophets – From Adam to Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and finally Muhammad (peace be upon them all).
  5. Belief in the Day of Judgment – That we’ll be held accountable for our actions in this life.

Who is Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)?

Muslims believe Muhammad ﷺ is the final messenger of God. He was born in Mecca in the 6th century and was known for his honesty, kindness, and wisdom. At the age of 40, he received revelation from God through the angel Jibreel (Gabriel). These revelations were memorized and written down — and together they form the Qur’an.

Muhammad ﷺ is seen not just as a prophet but as a role model for how to live a life of mercy, justice, humility, and devotion.

Is Islam a Religion of Peace?

Yes — truly and deeply. Islam teaches peace with God through faith, peace with ourselves through prayer and discipline, and peace with others through compassion and justice.

The Qur’an repeatedly speaks of mercy, forgiveness, and kindness — even toward those who may oppose or misunderstand you:

“God commands justice, good conduct, and giving to relatives and forbids immorality, bad conduct, and oppression.”
— Qur’an, 16:90

Becoming a Muslim

If you’ve read this far and you’re wondering “What does it take to become Muslim?” — it’s simple.

There’s no initiation, ceremony, or ritual. To become Muslim, you only need to say — with sincerity and understanding:

“I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”

That’s it.

From there, learning continues — and you’re never alone. We’re here to support you.

What Happens After?

No one is expected to know everything right away. Islam is a journey of learning, reflection, and growth. New Muslims often start by:

  • Learning how to pray (Salah)
  • Reading the Qur’an with a translation
  • Connecting with a local Muslim community
  • Asking questions — as many as they need!

At our mosque, we offer beginner-friendly classes, one-on-one guidance, and community support for new Muslims.

Got Questions?

You’re not expected to believe everything instantly or understand it all in one go. Islam encourages reflection and sincere questioning.

Our doors are open — whether you want to ask something, sit in a prayer service, or just have a conversation over tea.
